Left behind. The unofficial dOCUMENTA(13) opening
Those who won’t be at the opening of dOCUMENTA(13), the world famous art exhibition held every 5 years in Kassel, Germany, can still be at the dOCUMENTA(13) event at in Braamfontein, Johannesburg on Saturday the 9th of June. Organised by Kudzanai Chiurai, whose works will be presented at this year’s dOCUMENTA, the show will happen at Co-op and ROOM, both in Juta Street, and opens concurrently with Chiurai’s Documenta 13 installation on the 9th of June 2012 in Germany.
Juta Street will feature two video installations accompanied by Thandiswa Mazwai, Joao Orecchia and the BLK JKS, while ROOM will display photographs of the installation at Documenta 13 and Co-op will see a new edition of Conflict Resolution posters exhibited.
Kudzanai Chiurai’s poster show entitled Conflict Resolution grapples with the issue of conflict in the contemporary moment in Africa. He says “The spaces within which conflict has been taking place vary to the extent of our own understanding of what defines conflict. Our understanding of resolution is therefore also brought to the fore as we question the validity and nature of force used in our attempts at peace.”
